Accessible Education, Inspired by Waldorf Traditions
Lottery & Enrollment Process
Sun Mountain Community School (SMCS) is a tuition-free public charter school offering a Waldorf-inspired education to students in Santa Fe and the surrounding communities. When there are more applicants than spaces available, we hold a lottery to determine enrollment in a fair and transparent way.
Key Dates for 2026–2027 Enrollment
- Lottery Opens: December 15, 2025
- Enrollment Interest Form (EIF) Closes: December 13, 2025
- Lottery Notifications Sent: February 28, 2026
Acceptance Deadline: March 7, 2026, at 11:59 PM
Families interested in enrolling should submit an Enrollment Interest Form (EIF) before December 13. When the lottery opens on December 15, a Lottery Application Form will be posted on our website and emailed to all families on our interest list. Each student requires a separate lottery submission.
How the Lottery Works?
Once the application window closes, all eligible entries are reviewed and verified. Duplicate, incomplete, or questionable forms will be flagged, and our team will reach out to clarify or confirm details before processing. Verified entries are then assigned a random number and entered into the lottery drawing by grade level.
During the drawing, every eligible student’s name is pulled and assigned a number. Available enrollment spots in each class are offered to the lowest-numbered entries. Those students will receive an Acceptance Email with instructions to confirm their spot by the deadline. If a family declines or does not respond in time, the next student on the waiting list (by numerical order) will be offered the spot. All remaining students will be notified of their waitlist number.
Once a spot is accepted, families will receive a link to complete the Registration Forms online.
Additional Placement Notes
Students will be placed in the next grade based on their current academic track. If a student is homeschooled or requesting grade acceleration, documentation of readiness (such as assessments and a teacher/tutor letter) is required.
Our Commitment
SMCS’s admissions process is inclusive, equitable, and fully compliant with public charter regulations. We welcome students of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
We are honored that you are considering Sun Mountain Community School for your child. We look forward to guiding you through this process and welcoming your family into our community.
